Seriously

Don’t take life too seriously. It’s only a temporary condition.”
--Bill Knapp

I’m one of those people who takes themselves too seriously. Sometimes I get stuck at the deep end of the pool and forget that the shallow end can be a lot of fun and that it’s okay to hang out there once in a while.
So, I was having one of these “serious” days. We were going to have company over and so I was rushing around to tidy up the house, set out the nice tablecloth, stock the fridge with sodas and juices, and make sure I had treats to offer my guests. Not knowing exactly how much I’d need, I made sure to have more than enough on hand.

After our company arrived, I went to pull a cold beverage from the fridge and this is what greeted me:
I laughed myself silly and ended up relaxing enough to have a great time.

Thank heavens for that General. =]

Bill Knapp was right. That's why people who follow his advice are never caught Knapping.

Husbands are the best invention (except for maybe cinnamon bears. maybe.)

It sounds like you and I have similar hosting styles, at least the preparation part. It is nice that the General was there to help you loosen up.

Neil balances out my seriousness like that too and I love it (now anyway, once upon a time ago not so much, but that's another story).

Can I come play in the shallow end with you for awhile? All that swimming in the depths is just plain exhausting!

I want to go splash in the shallow end too. Thanks for the insight- and you're right- you have a great guy.

I spend way too much time in the shallow end. I think I'm applying the admonition to be childlike in not exactly the right way!

A good belly laugh is worth it's weight in gold. Love it!

I, like you, probably spend far too much time in the deep end of the pool!

Jeff is so good at making me laugh at myself -- when I remember to not be offended! I'm so glad I have a hilarious husband!

That's funny!

So true that we can't always take life too seriously. Sometimes humor is key to my sanity when my kids are going crazy. Spilled water on electric appliances while the dog rips the carpet and another kid is jumping on the de-cushion couch... yeah, I guess it is kind of funny!
