“You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions.”
--Naguib Mahfouz
Again, a hearty THANK YOU to all of you for your questions. They’re my saving grace this week. So let’s get this party started, huh?
Annette Lyon asked me: Where do you have a scar, and what’s the story behind it?
I’ve always wanted to be asked this question! (Isn’t that kind of odd?) I have a strange almost-heart-shaped scar on my left knee. When I was a teenager, it was the bane of my summertime. It was large, puffy, and ugly as sin. I never felt comfortable wearing shorts or a swimsuit in public because I was always worried about people seeing it. It didn’t stop me from going swimming or wearing shorts but I was neurotically worried about it.
How did I get it? I had a friend that lived a couple of miles away and several times a week, we’d walk, bike, or rollerblade to each other’s houses. One time, I’d skated to her house, which happened to be up a pretty steep hill. I was late getting home (sorry, mom!) and didn’t want to take the time to safely walk down said steep hill and thought, “I can totally skate down this just fine. I have brakes.”
Yeah. Let’s just say that I pin-wheeled into oncoming traffic and almost got hit by 3 cars. The asphalt ripped right through my brand new jeans and proceeded through my once smooth skin. When I finally made it home, after hobble-skating the remaining two miles, my mom took one look at me and said, “What did you do to your jeans!” ;) Love ya, Mom.
CgLearner (a.k.a. The General) asked me, Who’s your favorite software architect?
You, baby. Always.
Well, that’s it for today’s questions! I’ll have more tomorrow so, stay tuned! Thanks again, everyone!
Until next time,
L.T.
p.s. Do you have a scar story? Feel like sharing?

Whahoo!! Programmers rule! And I have lots of software related scars! Like this one time, I overflowed the stack by accidentally setting an infinite loop, and it froze half of the files that I was working with... which were OS files... and I killed Windows...
Good times, good times...
Oh, and guess who my favorite author is? Yeah, that's right... It's you baby!
Lol, nice. I love scar stories! I have a million and two (at least), since I'm such a klutz, but one of the most recent, and my personal favorite, happened this past summer. I was at camp, and I was taking this class called Pokemon. One of the day's activities in said class was to go down a slip-n-slide and throw balls at a target. I went down on my knees. Repeatedly. I have permanent road rash on my shins now. :P
Most of the others involve falling off of things or flipping out of boats, although there is one that involves my younger cousin taking a chunk out of my arm with his shark teeth...
Haha, yeah. Happy Sunday! :)
O to the U to the C H! Sounds quite painful!
Kinda cool that it looks like a heart.
I'm just waiting for James to see CgLearner's comment and laugh. I'm sure he'll get it!
LOL @ CgLearner. Killing Windows can be quite the enjoyable pasttime, you know. Not terribly challenging, mind you, but fun nonetheless ;-)
BTW, my word verification is "focksup". Bwahahahaha!!!
Wow. I am very glad you were not killed by the 3 cars.
I've always thought scars were sort of badass, but I don't have any to speak of. Just a sliver of one on the back of my hand, and I honestly don't remember where it came from.
By the by, I left you an award on my blog. http://mavieenviolet.blogspot.com/2010/02/to-give-and-recieve.html
Great story!
I have 2 tiny scars on each side of my jaw. They're really hard to see unless you know exactly where to look. They're from oral surgery where the surgeon inserts three screws into each side of my jaw.
It's wild to see dental x-rays, because you can still see the screws.
That is quite the story! And lucky you ended up with only one almost-heart-shaped scar on your knee and not a whole lotta scars!
Poor L.T! And those poor jeans (LOL)!
I don't have many scars, I guess you could say I'm a little prissy.
I have one under my lower lip. I was climbing up the ladder at the local pool and some crazy girl in a life jacket, water wings, AND inner tube jumped in right behind me and scared the life out of me. I slipped and split underneath my lip. By the time I'd got myself to lifeguard's station my cupped hands were full of blood. And all this right before my 9th birthday. For some reason I decided to cut my own hair...to look nicer because of the mess on my face. Botched it horribly. The pictures of that birthday are very gruesome to behold.
I'm looking forward to you answering all these questions and getting to know more about you!
Haha--your mom sounds cool. You know, when I banged up my knee playing basketball a couple weeks ago I made SURE to wear my knee length skirt to show that puppy off.
I'll bet you'd flaunt an injury now. ;)
Ouch! I have a scar on my knee too, and I STILL hate wearing shorts.
Yay for knee scars!!! I have 8. It took me years to earn them all (8 surgeries to be exact).
When I was in my early twenties I used to think it was so funny when grown men would get grossed out by my scars. I don't care who sees them, so get out the shorts when it's hot, I'm not afraid.
I love scars. They're sort of a road map of your life.... and I've got the whole city on my leg.
Aww, a little scar on the knee's not so bad. And, heart shaped? That's downright cute :)
I have one on my leg where a German Shepherd tried to eat me. Does that count?
Wow. Sounds like you were pretty lucky. I don't have any interesting scars, unless you count my C-section scars. Actually, that is a well-earned scar! My husband has a lightning shaped scar on his finger. I think someone tried to curse him or something.
My knee has a little pencil-line scar where my brother hit me with a shovel digging me out of a hole. Awesome bonding activity, right?
Hey, I had no idea you had that scar! I have a scar on my left knee from a bike accident too. It even stopped traffic and people were offering me rides home. I just got back up on that bike (crying of course) and rode it home, blood stained leg and all. I know. Gross.
I have a scar on my right cheek. I also used to be neurotically worried about people noticing it, but now I am happy to have it. Mostly :)
Scars are symbols of being alive. We should all be so proud.
Let's see. There's one on my hand from where a glass cup broke and scratched my hand while I was doing the dishes. There's one on my neck where I had a cyst removed. There's one on my knee where I fell on a rock. There's one. . .
Along with all those chicken pox ones.
Scars are fun!
P.S. Love your blog!
I have a basketball-sized one on my left upper thigh from when I was a teenager and went cliff-diving without common sense. You know, as if people who cliff dive USE common sense.
The funny thing about that? I was the only sober one there. And the only one to get hurt.
Yeah, I've "skated" down hills too! Ouch. Cool story though.
I have a scar on my ankle from ankle surgery I had. I think it is kind of cute.
Almost hit by 3 cars? Yikes! That is some kind of crazy.
At least the scar is almost-heart-shaped, right?
:)
I have a similar scar on my knee - bike riding though.
Your hubby is so cute!
I have a vertical scar from my left nostril down to my lip. I was running away from my mom in the grocery store (I was 3) and ran smack into some shelving. She said I stopped running after that. It used to be the first thing people would say after learning my name. "Hi. What's that scar above your lip?" Yeah, I loved that. It's faded in the last few years. Hooray.
You know what? My husband-to-be never asked. Awwww. His brother did, though.
Ouch! *grin* I think the Mom questions are nearly universal.
I love your voice, by the way. :D
Wow, Laura... I'm so sorry that happened to you. I know I would've dropped to my knees and hugged you as I bawled my eyes out if I saw you coming home like that to me!! :(
But that's me. I'm so emotional.
What is it about a good scar story?
I have tons. LOL
Always wanted someone to ask you about scars? Thats funny!
I have a scar on my knee too--I've always loved it cause it looked like I got stitches.
My mom was ironing and I got too close--the iron tipped over and got me on the cheek. I never really noticed the scar much but it caught the light just right in my prom photos and, yep, it's definitely there. Thank goodness it didn't make a major appearance for my wedding photos! (Miss you!)
