Like, Dislike, and Love

I've written a lot of emotional posts lately and realized it's been a while since I've said what I'm up to. So today I decided to share a list of things I like, dislike, and love.

I like sleeping in. Really, really like that. I like springtime emerging: green shoots, budding trees, and my kids begging to play outside. I like the crisp air, just warm enough to break out my frayed hoodie and not my winter coat. I like when my kids are finished with homework for the day.

A few things I don't like? I don't like feeling jittery or shaky or frustrated over my son's schooling. I don't like doubt and fear and uncertainty plaguing me all freaking day. I don't like how long it takes for 5:30 to roll around so my husband can be home and I can hug his guts out.

I'm loving books! I just finished The Desert of Souls by Howard A. Jones. It's like Arabian Nights with magic. It has this beautiful, intimate twist. Those characters will live with me a long time, I think.

I also read this fabulous book by Luisa Perkins called Dispirited. This one's a creeptastic ghost story meets out-of-body experiences meets a coming of age. Luisa has some of the most gorgeous language I've ever read. I highly recommend both books. They're fabulous!

I've also had the lucky pleasure to beta read & critique for a few people I know and I've got to admit, it's so much fun. It's reading! Reading great stuff! The only downside is that these incredible ideas and words can humble me up real fast. ;)

On a personal writing note, some inspiration met with desperation and I'm now neck deep in writing a new book of my own.

This new story has surprised me a little—despite its pre-planning—and I can say I've fallen in head first. That's eluded me for a while and it feels so wonderful to write something that excites, calls, and begs to be written. It's so different from my usual. Still fantasy but not really fantasy, you know? I can say it definitely belongs on my "love" list.

So tell me, what are you liking, disliking, and loving?

Until next time,

L.T.

I love when my kids homework is done too. I get so sick of homework. Not the homework so much but the fight to get my kids to do it. I'll be glad when this year is over. I love spring weather, but I hate the work of it - yard maintenance. Can't wait to read what you're writing.

Oooh, I love hoodie season too. Mmm and sleeping in. Lately my son has been sleeping an extra half hour and night and I'm loving it. Haven't reached the homework stage yet, and I'm dreading it. The Arabian Nights story looks intriguing, I'll have to put it on my list. Lately I've been loving writing too! I've just been getting back into the swing of things and it feels soooo good!

I'm loving that you're writing again! :-)

I'm loving the time I've had at home. How I wish I could do it every day.

I'm loving watching lots of old Cary Grant movies.

I'm loving my husband and daughter and stepson taking care of me as I recover.

I'm loving how my kitties snuggle with me every day.

AND, I'm loving that I'm starting to fall head over heels in love with my novel!

Oh, sleeping in. I love sleeping in, probably because it happens so rarely. And I love that picture. Very awesome. Good luck with the new project!

I love reading a post from you. And I also loved Luisa's book.

I love when my husband has to get up earlier than me and he tries so hard to be quiet and keep things dark so I can sleep.

I love when I look out the window and there is blue sky.

I love when I look at the mountains after a snowstorm and the peaks look so sharp you could just see a giant splitting open his thumb accidentally.

I love the trees that are purple with blooms, that in overcast weather they are almost painful to look at.

I love tulips.

I can't wait to see you. How are we going to work this out. I'm still thinking lunch on Thursday?

I can't wait to read it!!! (Your wip.) Yay!

I'm loving that I can wear flip-flops again, hating that I'm sweating. Ew.

Such a great list. I'm loving the fact that I don't have to wear socks, but I'm hating the fact that my son broke his toe and will have to miss some basketball games.

Liking all the tulips in my yard, loving my critique group, and disliking the long hours my son is spending in rehearsals. But loving how happy he is in the play. Oh, and loving having one of my college kids home for the summer. And LOVING that you're back in the game!! Woot Woot!

p.s. I won't be at Storymakers this year. I know, BOO! My family keeps having momentous occasions, right when I'm trying to play with my friends!

Hugging his guts out... been there.

And I can't wait to read Dispirited.

I hate the gripping fear of worrying about my kids either. It is exhausting.

Oooh, I LIKE that picture. I strongly DISLIKE mushrooms. Fungus, anyone?

And I'm LOVING the fact that I'm only working 2 days this week!
